Anyone who has ever met me will tell you that I was born with seriously unruly, unmanageable hair. This was only made worse when I started dyeing it every color of the rainbow. For the most part, my hair ended up getting increasingly damaged until it no longer accepted color of any sort. 

Though it took me a while, I was able to save my hair from being chopped off by an angry hairdresser. Over the course of my hair repair journey, I've learned a number of pretty awesome hair hacks that help boost your hair's health and color. Check out my favorite tips below!

If you want to have beautiful ringlet curls, braid your hair while it's wet in the morning.

Braiding your hair is not just for schoolgirls anymore! One of the best hair hacks for people who want to have curlier hair or desire tousled beach waves is to braid your hair after you hop out from the shower. Let your hair dry a bit, and then release your braids. 

Because of the moisture, your hair will stay curlier and look amazing throughout the day. 

Get rid of frizz using a toothbrush and some hairspray.

Frizzy hair is a toughie, since you often end up dealing with too much hairspray just to make your hair look normal. Thankfully, there are plenty of hair hacks you can use to tame those extra flyaways. 

To tame those stray strands, spray some hairspray on a toothbrush, then use your toothbrush to brush down the frizz. This reduces the amount of hairspray you use and keeps your hair touchably soft. 

A word of advice—if you have dry hair or ethnic hair, using conditioning spray is a better option than the typical "hold it" spray most folks will tell you to use. This way, your hair gets nourished and flattened.

Add length to your ponytail by wearing two ponytails instead of one.

Ever wonder how some women seem to get such long, pretty ponytails going on? Usually, it's because they layer ponytails. To do this, pull the lower half of your hair into one low-lying ponytail. Next, pull the top half of your hair into a higher ponytail that sits right above the lower one.

Admittedly, some people might not consider this to be in the category of hair hacks, but the fact is that learning this trick really changed my life (and hair!) for the better.

One of the most common telltale signs of old hair color is brassiness, and it can happen to almost any kind of hair dye. If you want Hollywood-quality hair color, follow your hair color up with monthly toner touch-ups.

You can add some bouncy volume to your hair overnight.

You know how doctors encourage pregnant women to take prenatal vitamins by saying it helps their hair, skin, and nails look great? There's a lot of truth to that. The vitamins in prenatal vitamins are important building blocks for hair, skin, and nails. 

Nutrition is important if you want to have full, healthy hair. Needless to say, if you have thinning hair or dull hair, this might be one of the best hair hacks you can use. 

Give hair plopping a try if you have curly, unruly, or otherwise difficult hair.

This is one of the hair hacks that people who have curly or ethnic hair need to try. Hair plopping is a special drying method that uses conditioner, towel drying, and piling your hair up high to help absorb the nutrients that the conditioner offers. 

The healthy result of hair plopping matches a lot of the best hair masks—and it's way easier to do than you'd think. It also offers great curls without the need for a curling iron, and it's pretty enough that you'll put your flat iron to rest.

A little bit of mousse and scrunching makes for a lot of beach waves.

Ever wonder how some girls always seem to look like they just came inside from surfing the waves? Getting those beautiful beachy waves is actually really easy—even if you aren't even sure if you're washing your hair right. 

Just grab some hair mousse, put it between your hands, and then start scrunching your hair. Ta da! Beach waves. 

Finally, if you need extra shine, just rinse your hair with a shot of vodka.

This is one of the oldest hair hacks in the book, and surprisingly, it works wonders. The alcohol makes your hair close up its pores, which gives it a more shiny appearance. The important thing to remember when doing this is to use vodka sparingly; alcohol can strip your hair of oils if you're too liberal with it.
