Keeping your house clean and organized may seem like a tall order, and if you have young children, it may seem impossible, but it does not have to be. Most people spend an hour or two per day doing some type of housecleaning, such as dishes, sweeping and cleaning the toilet. There are some quick and easy tasks you can complete each day to keep your house neat and tidy without spending too much of your time.
Some cleaning tasks are more important than others. Making a list of cleaning priorities will help you stay on track and not waste time doing chores that can wait for an all-day cleaning session. The list you create will help you stay focused and keep your house in company-ready shape.
Make Your Bed
Many people forego the task of making their bed because they consider it a waste of time, but a made bed will keep your bedroom looking tidy and clean. This is especially important if visitors to your home can see into your bedroom from one of the main rooms in your house or apartment. The added bonus is that you get to climb into a freshly made bed at the end of a long day, which can have a calming effect.
Laundry Times One
Doing a load of laundry each day keeps it from piling up. Nothing is more overwhelming than laundry that has piled up for a week. If you simply do one load per day, it will not seem like a monumental task and you will not have piles of dirty clothes in your laundry room, bathroom, or throughout your house. Be sure to complete the task by putting the load away after it is finished drying.
Take fifteen or twenty minutes each night before you go to bed to pick up your house and do a little tidying up. Have the kids pick up their toys or books and straighten their bedrooms while you sweep and mop the kitchen or do a load of dishes. One thing you never want to wake up to is a sink full of dirty dishes!
Keeping Grout Clean
One way to keep your kitchen and bathroom looking clean and fabulous is to make sure there is no dirty grout. To make grout cleaning simple, simply spray the grout with hot water, then mix up a paste of two parts baking soda to one part hydrogen peroxide. This will form a paste that you can spoon or wipe onto the grout, and if you are cleaning an area exposed to grease in the kitchen, add a little dish soap to your paste. Leave the paste on the grout for about ten minutes while you complete another cleaning task, then scrub with a brush. Mix up a bucket of hot water and dish soap to rinse away the paste and you will have a clean, sparkling kitchen and bathroom.
Squeegee Your Shower
To keep your shower and bathtub clean and inviting, keep a squeegee and some tile cleaner nearby. As you are getting out of the shower, run the squeegee over the tile a few times and prevent mold and the buildup of soap scum and dirt. It will leave your bathroom looking and smelling fresh and only takes an extra minute or two in the bathroom.
Keeping It Straight
Straighten your dish and bath towels in your bathroom and kitchen to keep those rooms looking tidy and organized. Something this simple can save time later when visitors arrive at your door unexpectedly.
Keeping your house looking and smelling clean is important to your overall health and wellbeing. Dirty houses can lend themselves to being a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria and germs, so it’s better to stay on top of your cleaning chores by doing a few each day.
